From a young age, Radboud Kuypers has been drawn to graphic and geometric forms, which continue to play a central role in his work today. The square serves as his constant point of departure. He is particularly fascinated by the sense of order and repetition these forms create, processing these elements in a constructive manner that extends beyond minimalism.

From this structure and rhythm emerges a world of layering and transparency, where openness and reflection take center stage. The space between lines and planes creates a subtle illusion of depth and dimension. His work reflects an ongoing search for structure within chaos — both in his personal world and in the society around him.

His refined sensitivity to color and nuance is strongly present throughout his oeuvre. Radboud often works with bold yet harmonious, predominantly metallic tones that radiate warmth and intensity. Unexpected color combinations create striking contrasts and visual tension. While much of his practice is two-dimensional, he also explores three-dimensional forms, with the square remaining a recurring element throughout.

In addition to acrylic paint and pastel on canvas and paper, he incorporates everyday and recycled materials, paper collages, as well as embroidery and crochet. This versatile approach not only highlights his experimental working method, but also reflects his environmentally conscious vision. His background in fashion and costume design adds another dimension to his practice, where structure and aesthetics naturally converge.

While his paintings reveal a spontaneous and raw freedom in the use of materials, his embroidery demonstrates remarkable refinement and an almost mathematical precision.
